Doctors & Physiotherapists

Are you a physiotherapist or a doctor?

If the answer is Yes to any of these questions then osteopathy may be the right career for you. Our Accelerated Learning Pathway (ALP), has been specially designed for doctors and physiotherapists, run part-time, over three years.

Accelerated Learning Pathway (ALP)

There is a growing group of individuals expressing interest in the LSO degree course. These include qualified and registered health care professionals such as medical doctors and chartered physiotherapists.

With this new development, these applicants can enter the course at an advanced stage by seeking remission of certain LSO course modules and can claim 'credits' for undertaking very similar modules and experiences elsewhere on other course e.g. MB BS, BSc Physiotherapy, Diploma in Physiotherapy. Such intending students are motivated by a wish to realign their professional lives and to work primarily as an osteopath.

This pathway allows completion the relevant modules over a period of 3 years (rather than 5, as in our normal pathway). It includes taking a new module, 'Transition to Osteopathy'. One challenge is to `unlearn', or gradually supplant a well-established model of professionalism, with something new that could be confusing and testing to acquire. This module will initiate the transition to osteopathy.

The ALP leads to a BSc Hons Osteopathy which is a Recognised Qualification accredited by the GOsC. This entitles the graduate to apply for registration with the GOsC and to practice as an osteopath. There are less than 3500 registered osteopaths in the UK and so there is plenty of practice potential.

Intending students should contact the Registrar for an Application Form and to enrol on our Access Workshop which is to be announced.
